Dorothy Mary McTighe

Dorothy Mary McTighe, 99, of Mount Pleasant, SC, formerly of Westwood, MA, and wife of the late William Joseph McTighe passed away peacefully, on Friday, June 9, 2023, with her family by her side. Born on May 9, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Cecelia Strittmatter Hartman and Robert J. Strittmatter.

Dorothy was a dedicated volunteer at The Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury, MA, Ursuline Academy in Dedham, MA and Charles Pickney Elementary School in Mount Pleasant, SC, bringing her warmth and support to countless students and faculty. She delighted in puzzles, word games, and was a loyal viewer of "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." Known for her unwavering positivity and infectious cheer, she always brought a smile to everyone's face. Dorothy's love for sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, and Boston Bruins, was a testament to her spirited nature.

Alongside her many interests, Dorothy's greatest joy was found in the love of her family and friends. She nurtured deep connections with her loved ones and valued every moment shared with them. Her genuine care and affection left an enduring impact on the hearts of those who knew her. Words cannot express the impact she had on everyone she met. Her radiant smile, encouraging presence, and love for life will forever inspire her family, friends, and all who were touched by her warmth. The lesson we all live by is WWND, “What would Nana do.”

Dorothy is survived by Mary McTighe Prelack (daughter) and husband Steven of Mount Pleasant, SC; three sons, William McTighe, Jr. and his wife Mary of Charleston, SC; Robert McTighe and his wife Jean of Wellesley, MA; and Thomas McTighe and his wife Maria of Mount Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren: Christopher, Jennifer, and Sean Prelack; Michael McTighe; Anne (Mike) Huynh McTighe; Elizabeth McTighe; Cecelia, Ruthie, and Clare McTighe​. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

​The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at​ McAlister-Smith Funeral Home at 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount​ Pleasant, SC. Saying of the Rosary will follow from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm at St. Bendict​ Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mount Pleasant, SC.
