Doris W 'Mena' Burkhardt (Gratzick)

Mrs. Mena Burkhardt, 74, of Charleston, widow of Gene Burkhardt, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her home surrounded by her daughter and family. Mena was born on May 2, 1940 in Charleston, SC to the late Murphy Gratzick and the late Doris Gratzick. She enjoyed caring for the children at Nativity’s Extended Day Program, where she worked for 20 years. She loved the children, families and colleagues at EDP. She was a faithful member of Nativity Catholic Church for more than 43 years. She adored her friendships with close neighbors, co-workers, high school friends and family. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Burkhardt of Charleston; one sister, Frances Robertson of Johns Island; several beloved nieces and nephews and her precious grand-dog Daisy Dog. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel, 347 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC 29412. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC 29412. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Rd., Charleston, SC 29412.
