Donald Ray "Don" Foster, 80, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024. He was the loving husband to Bonnie (Ross) Foster.
Don was born on August 24, 1944 in Atlanta, GA, to the late Sarah Frances (Chappell) Foster and Paul Wesley Foster, Sr.
He was a graduate of West Georgia College and Emory University School of Law. He served honorably in the United States Navy. He practiced law in Jonesboro, GA, for nearly 40 years, serving as the attorney for the City of Jonesboro, City of Riverdale, Clayton County Commissioners, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Clayton County Police Department, and the Clayton County Department of Family and Children’s Services. He was a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia and DFCS. He also served as an adjunct professor at Clayton State College and was a past president of the Clayton County Bar Association.
Don was a member of both the GA and FL Bars, a past president of the Rotary Club of Clayton County, GA, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, a past president of the Lake Spivey Civic Association, and a former District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts. He was an active member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church of Morrow, GA, for more than 40 years, where he served in many leadership roles.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Paul Wesley Foster, Sr. and Sarah Frances Foster (Chappell) and his older brothers, Paul "Wesley" Foster, Jr. and Larry A. Foster, Sr.
In addition to his wife Bonnie, Don is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Joyce Foster, his sisters-in-law, Betty Lane Foster and Mary Jo Foster, his daughter and son-in-law, Ansley and Bobby McGihon, his son and son's fiancée, Damon "Ross" Foster and Allison Johnson, and four grandchildren, Lily Ryan Hall, Robert "Foster" McGihon, Ross "Keller" McGihon and John "Walker" McGihon.
