Donald Paul DeLuca

Donald Paul DeLuca, 83, of Johns Island SC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23 after an extended illness.

Born June 26, 1940, in Newark, NJ to Daniel and Blanche DeLuca, he was one of 3 sons.

After a stellar career at Virginia Military Institute, he graduated with High Honors in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He became a proud member of the 101st Airborne Regiment. While enlisted, his favorite assignment was serving as a Combat Tank Commander on the DMZ of South Korea. His love for all things military and history followed him through his life and was his constant source of study and pride.

After Service, he pursued a rewarding career in corporate finance, working for several multinational companies. His career allowed him to see the world and experience many things. His travels also gave him his love of fine wine and gourmet food, which he passed on to his family.

Upon retirement, he moved his family to Charleston, SC where he continued working, started 2 companies, and served on various Boards and Committees. His spare time was enjoyed with his growing family at the beach, on the boat, or enjoying Charleston’s restaurants. Charleston also served as a constant source of fuel for his love of history and antiques.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Donald Paul DeLuca, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine “Gerry” McNulty DeLuca, his daughter Susan E. Fletcher (Don), his brothers, Robert & Ronald DeLuca, his daughter-in-law Sara DeLuca and his grandchildren, Sara Eleanor DeLuca, Madison Eleanor Fletcher, and Thomas Paul DeLuca.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM, Grace Cathedral Church, 98 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401, with future interment planned for Arlington National Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Pet Helpers at 1447 Folly Rd, Charleston SC 29412.
