Dianne Way "Dee Dee" Huck

Dianne (“Dee Dee”) Way Huck, 82 years old, of Hollywood, SC, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

She was born on August 11, 1942, in Charleston, SC. She was one of three children of the late Marguerite Catherine (Walker) Way and Dennis Bartow Way.

Dianne was blessed with a loving family, and during her life was surrounded by her grandparents, parents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, a caring husband, five children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She grew up in Elloree, SC, and lived in Charleston, SC most of her life, attending Bishop England High School. Dianne was a beloved member of the BPO Does of the Charleston Elks Lodge, where she made countless friends. She also enjoyed volunteering with her sister-in-law, Paula, and other dear friends at Meals on Wheels.

Dee Dee loved to entertain and cook meals for family and friends, and she beautifully and thoughtfully decorated the home for all holidays. She also loved to bake and often made homemade sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls, and other baked goods, which she made partly because she enjoyed eating them so much! She also loved sewing, making clothing, custom curtains, pillows, and more for the family and others. She also loved to be outside working in the yard surrounded by nature at her beautiful home in Meggett, SC.

More than anything else, she loved to be with her family and friends. She cherished her time at the family beach house on Folly Beach. She brightened every room she entered and was truly the life of the party. She loved music and enjoyed dancing and singing. She had many special lifelong friends who were all so dear to her that they became family to Dee Dee and her loved ones. She made everyone feel welcome, helping and supporting anyone who needed a shoulder to lean or cry on, and she knew the perfect way to dole out “tough love” when it was needed most. She called everybody “darlin,” and she accepted and unconditionally loved everyone. Her sense of humor was unmatched, and she laughed just as easily as she made others laugh. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her and will live on in everyone’s hearts.

She wore many hats during her lifetime, working at the Medical University of South Carolina as a microbiology lab technician and surgical researcher, and later as a real estate agent with Kitty LaTorre Realty and Harry Bishop Realty on James Island. She loved spending time with children and was affectionately known as “Miss Dee Dee” while working at the daycare at Harbor View Presbyterian Church on James Island. She also sewed custom futon covers and pillows for Futons by Beauty, and she ran the show at the family-owned nautical store, The Porthole, in Aberdeen, MS. She thoroughly enjoyed working alongside her daughter, Dawn, installing custom tile in beautiful homes in I’on and on Daniel Island before retiring.

Dianne is survived by her devoted and caring husband of fifty-two years, William Paul Huck, Sr.; her three daughters, Denise Marguerite Relyea; Dawn Kathleen (Relyea) Kirby, and her husband Phil; and Katie (Huck) McElveen, and her husband, Hawk; her son, William Paul Huck, Jr.; her six grandchildren, Danielle Burkhardt Ryals (Colton); Catherine Rogerson Sizemore (Chris); Gregory Allen Burkhardt, Jr.; Melissa Huck Kelley (Shelby); Jeffere Powers McElveen; and William Paul Huck, III; her three great-grandchildren, Huck and Dovelyn Ryals; and Dea Sizemore; her brother, Dennis Bartow Way, Jr.; and countless other family members and dear friends.

Dianne is preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Dennis Way; her son, Charles Jeffere Relyea, III; and her sister, Kathleen Linda Way.
