Diane Barclay Wattay, 84 of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born on February 28, 1939, in Portsmouth, VA Diane was the daughter of the late Marie Barclay (West) and Sheldon Barclay.
Diane graduated from Churchland High School in 1956. She earned an Associate in Arts from William & Mary College in Norfolk, VA in 1958. Diane earned a Bachelor of Arts from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) Glenside, PA. In 1971 she completed graduate studies at Ryder College, NJ, and Penn State. She married Lt.jg. Alexander Edward Wattay, USN on August 1, 1959 in Portsmouth, VA. Together they raised their sons Alexander E. Wattay, Jr., (Lori) and Ross Barclay Wattay (Jan). Her grandchildren are Joshua Wattay and Naomi Wattay. Diane taught first and second grade at Leary Elementary School in Bucks County, PA. She was a Senior Research Assistant at Educational Testing Service, of Princeton, NJ. Diane was actively involved in many clubs and organizations which included a leadership role with the Bucks County chapter of the League of Women Voters in the late 1970’s. She loved reading, playing golf, water aerobics, quilting, bridge, traveling and gardening. Especially meaningful to her was her Stephen Ministry service while she lived in Hilton Head Island SC. Diane cherished being with her family and friends.
Diane is preceded in death by her husband Alexander E. Wattay Sr., father Sheldon Barclay and mother Marie Barclay; and her sister Valerie Barclay Appuzio. She is survived by her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Rodenberg Hall Chapel at Franke at Seaside, 1500 Franke Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC.
