Dewey Morris Allread Jr

West Columbia, South Carolina - Dewey Morris Allread ,83, of West Columbia, passed away on April 28,2023. He had been in declining health for several years due to a back condition. He was born in Columbia, SC on April 11, 1940, to Harriet Elizabeth Rucker Allread and Dewey "Rock" Maurice Allread.

He spent his early childhood in Sandy Run, then in West Columbia. He graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1958 and served in the Army National Guard. He began his career with South Carolina ETV in 1960 as a cameraman in the beginning days of public educational television.After 30 years, he retired from SCETV as a Producer Director, and served as a consultant for several years after retirement. Morris was an avid reader and had a wealth of knowledge in many areas. He was always more than willing to share that knowledge with anyone. He was a dedicated gardener and was happy to share the fruits of his labor. He was a collector of coins, stamps, fossils and books. He had many talents and enjoyed restoring and tinkering with his 1934 Ford and his 1966 Corvette.

Morris is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Lee Allread of Memphis, Tennessee and Melinda Anne Allread of West Columbia; and his sisters, Iris Allread Ball of Cayce, and Billie Allread Beachum (Ray) of Columbia. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary Anne Allread.

A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at Beulah United Methodist church in Sandy Run. Memorials may be made to Beulah United Methodist Church, 1577 Old State Rd, Gaston, SC 29053.
