Dennis “Denny†Edward Dunn, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 20, 2016. He was born on Tuesday, August 18, 1942 in Deadwood, SD. Denny was the 4th of eight children born to the late Mrs. Isabel E. Dunn and the late Mr. Robert Thomas Dunn. Denny was a pharmacist who took over his father’s business, Dunn’s Pharmacy, along with Kay, in Lead, South Dakota in 1965. Denny then practiced pharmacy at the Veteran’s Administration hospital in Omaha, NE. After retiring, Denny and Kay moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC and even enjoyed time at their exotic casita in Belize. An avid sports fan, Denny was never too far from cheering for his beloved New York Yankees, or the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Denny was also an accomplished runner having completed no fewer than 12 marathons. Those that knew Denny were always entertained with his dry Irish wit and endless stories of life in the Black Hills or some youthful or not so youthful shenanigans. Denny was also known for his unrelenting generosity for those afflicted with alcoholism. Denny, sober for more than 40 years, took dozens of “12 Step†calls to help people battle this difficult addiction. Also as a devout Catholic, we take comfort that Denny has quite the welcoming committee in Heaven with his Saintly, and somewhat devious brother, Father Bill Dunn leading the grand entrance parade. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kathleen M. Dunn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, Dr. Robert Thomas Dunn Jr. (Julie), of Moorpark, CA, Cass Ryan Dunn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Gerald William Colin Dunn (Cara), of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; two daughters, Erin Maureen Dunn, of Lihue, HI, and Dr. Jennifer Colleen Buhrfiend (Tim), of Elmhurst, IL; 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 5 siblings, Patricia, Michael, Kathleen, Mary Jane, and Rosemarie; and many loving friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Terrence and William. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Rosary to be recited at 5:00 PM.
