Dennis James Cordts, 75 of Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Born on July 14, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY was a Son of the late Emily DiBona and Robert Rigby.

One of Dennis’ very first accomplishments was joining the US Navy at 18 years old, and being deployed to and surviving Vietnam. After returning and joining the US Postal Service Police, Dennis quickly excelled to Union arbitrator and contract negotiator. Dennis then joined the Greenpoint Savings Bank where he quickly climbed to a Facilities manager position on Park Avenue, NY. He then left New York and ventured to Pennsylvania where he would buy and run his own video rental store. After relocating to South Carolina, he then joined the Berkeley County School District where he was named chief custodial engineer of Westview middle school. Even after retirement Dennis would still take on his own postage stamp business, which would prove to be very successful. Dennis was a fishing enthusiast, and whenever the opportunity presented itself, he’d be the first one on the shoreline. Dennis also loved his sports, football and baseball. He was a devoted fan of his New York sports teams.

Dennis is preceded in death by Anthony DiBona, Robert Rigby (Fathers), Emily DiBona (Mother), Lillian Maloney (Aunt), Jim Maloney (Uncle), Billy Cordts, Jimmy Cordts and Ernie Cordts (Brothers).

Dennis is survived by his wife Esther Mattei-Cordts, siblings Robert and Mary, daughters Denise, Dawn and Lisette, sons Ralph, William, Christopher and Henry. As well as 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

The celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation - Goose Creek, 869 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. stjude.org
