Demaries Ann Atwood, 93, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

Born on June 27, 1931, in Fort Pierce, FL to her late parents, Ethel Estelle (Byrd)) Krause and the late Richard Paul Krause, Sr.

Demaries Ann proudly took on the roles a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother in her family during her long happy life. She was dedicated to her faith and family in all things she undertook and accomplished.

She always shared a sweet and loving nature with family, friends, and her fellow church members throughout her life.

Demaries is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Basil Wayne Atwood, Sr.; parents, Richard and Ethel Krause; one brother, Richard Paul Krause, Jr.; and one grandson, Patrick M. Boynton.

Demaries is survived by three sons, Basil Wayne Atwood, Jr. (Teresa), of Florence, SC, Michael Atwood of San Diego, CA, and Eric Atwood (Margaret) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Meri Lynn Boynton (Marty) of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Darrel Krause (Louise) and John Krause (Sonia) of Florida; seven precious grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A small family service will be held at James Island Presbyterian Church,1632 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412 on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00am in remembrance and celebration of her life well lived. No further visitation is planned at this time.

Private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Low Country Food Bank or her church home, James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
