Delmont Lavern Thompson, Sr., 87, of Goose Creek, SC, husband to Claris Keith "Keithie" Thompson (Eaddy) of 49 years, entered into eternal rest on August 4, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 9, 1933 in Hemmingway, SC; Delmont was a son of the late Henry Julian Thompson and Agnes Esther Bolyn Thompson.
Delmont graduated from Hemmingway High School and served four years in the United States Army MASH Unit before moving to Charleston, SC. There he worked for 28 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a mechanic and ship's hull inspector, moving up to Lead Engineering Technician for the Navy Yard's design division.
Delmont was an active member of the Goose Creek community, well known and always willing to help anyone in need. He was never known to meet a stranger, and had a story to tell for any occasion. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing and being on the lake.
Delmont is survived by his three children Kathy Thompson Patterson of Elloree, Delmont Thompson, Jr of Goose Creek, Kimberly Ann Thompson of Goose Creek; his grandchildren include Holly Marulanda, Sarah Gray, Brandon Patterson, April Carter, Jessica Cook, Henry Julian Thompson, Derrick Allesandro, and Nathan Allesandro and 13 great-children.
Delmont was preceded in death by his loving wife Keithie Thompson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 6pm until 8pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
The service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11am at McAlister-Smith, 869 St James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
The entombment will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, 3345 S Live Oak Dr, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
