Deborah Backus Carter

Debbie Backus Carter McGibbon, 63, of Mt. Pleasant entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2018. She was born to Philip and Ethel Backus of Sullivan’s Island, on September 21, 1954. Debbie was an extraordinary and devoted mother, grandmother and life-long member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. A graduate of Moultrie High School, Debbie was a lifelong entrepreneur in the radio, childcare, arts and crafts industries and proprietor of DBC Home Improvements. Debbie is survived by her husband Stephen McGibbon, mother Ethel Backus, children Julie Rosebrock (Tradd), Jennifer Gooding (Adam), Bryan Carter (Suzi), and Alex McGibbon (Natasha) and 8 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Philip Backus, Sr. and maternal grandparents Raymond and Ethel Swain of Sullivan’s Island, SC. A visitation will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC on Monday, March 19 from 5-7 PM with a Rosary at 5 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 20 at 10AM at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle St, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1145 6 Mile Rd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466.
