David Eugene Snider

David Eugene Snider, 67, of Sandy Run, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023, with his loving wife by his side, as she was always.

Dave was born on December 24, 1955, in Welch, West Virginia, to a family that loved him so well for all of their days. After working in coal mines for many years, he moved on to advance his education and was a vital part of the development and growth of a large mobile medical company for nearly a decade. He completed his working years employed by Pitts Radiology. He accomplished many things in his life; it was full and successful, and this list could certainly be more comprehensive.

But all of those things above? Those are things Dave did; they aren't who he was. He would remind us now, “ Those aren't important things. Focus on the important things.”

So, allow me to tell you who he was, because my goodness, he was a great man.

He and Sharon were married on April 10, 1981, and have been best friends, building a beautiful life together side by side ever since. His daughter was his “Heart Buddy” well before she could even appreciate all that would mean to each of them. He greatly admired his son for the man of character that he is and all that he has accomplished. His son-in-law, nothing short of a third child in his heart, was loved wholly and equally. His grandsons were the light of his life. He had “big plans” for them, and we will do our very best to honor him by completing each of those for them as they grow. He enjoyed woodwork and crafted many pieces that will be treasured by his family forever. Furthermore, he built the family's first home, truly, from the ground up. He hiked the Appalachian Trail and had so many stories and lessons from that time in his life. He was extraordinarily intelligent, hilarious, hard-working, loving, compassionate, and the quintessential example of the person who would give you the shirt off his back. You'd be hard-pressed to find a patient he ever cared for that didn't feel seen, heard, and individually valued. He was the Adult Sunday School teacher for multiple churches throughout his lifetime, and I can say, without hesitation, that there are so many who remember well and have carried his “object lessons” with them throughout their lives.

He would often reference the Isaac Newton quote, “If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” He would always immediately follow up with, “Now, I'm certainly no giant, but if I could have learned something so that you don't have to, I've done my job.”

Dave loved God, and he loved his family endlessly without condition. He was “Jess” to Sharon’s “Lettie”, Daddy to two children who adored him from the day they were born, and Papa to two little boys who believed that he was a real-life superhero.

That is who he was.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Dave is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon; his daughter, Adrienne Jackson (Adam Jackson); his son, Matthew Snider (Anil Moore); his grandsons, Sully and Hudson Jackson; his brother, Gary Snider and his wife Nell of Oceana, West Virginia; his sister, Susan Plumley and her husband Mike of Bluewell, West Virginia; as well as extended family members.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Wayne Snider and Virginia Hatfield Snider.
