David William Baker

David William Baker, 71, of Johns Island, SC, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Born on December 14, 1951 in Hawthorne, CA, he was the son of late Donald Baker and Harriet Frandson-Baker.

David spent his youth in California and Colorado and was in the US Navy in Virginia. He raised his family in Florida and was an active patriarch leading his family to South Carolina. David was a wonderful brother, father, and grandfather. He was an avid baseball fan excelling at it as a youth in high school then coaching and score-keeping for his grandson’s baseball teams. He was passionate about human rights and helping the homeless. David was a good carpenter and owned his own business contributing to society while setting a strong example of work ethics for his family.

David is preceded in sleep by his ex-wife Christine Sue Foss and his sister Barbara Lopez.

David is survived by his daughters, Nicole Baker, Misty Gentles and Michelle Tipton, his sisters, Betsy Stempson and Kathy Larrison. His legacy lives on with his grandchildren Ashleigh Baker, Teighlor Baker, Faith Anderson, Peyton Tipton, Elijah Tipton, Brett Baker, Bradley Baker, Kaleb Gentles, Jacob Gentles and Makayla Gentles. He also has many adoring nieces and nephews, Mike Stempson, Craig Stempson, Christine Sanchez, Nick Lopez, Jesse Lopez, Kari Kemp, Kelli Garcia and RaeAnn Burrow.

We will greatly miss his insight into life, infectious humor, and the ways he held us up in hard times. He had a unique way of bringing calm and humor to meet all of life’s hardballs. We love you Dad!

There will be a celebration of life service on April 16, 2023 in South Carolina and a memorial service at a later date in Colorado.
