Daniel “Danny†Gerard Ames, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into Eternal Rest to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 22, 2016. He was born on Saturday, March 3, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Mrs. Sarah McDonald Ames and the late Mr. Daniel A. Ames. Danny was a very gentle spirit, loved traveling, fishing, tennis, cycling and square dancing. After retirement he began his journey of traveling in his RV with his beloved wife Phyllis. They ventured to many different camp grounds on the East Coast, and a favorite memory of his was their trip to Nova Scotia. Over his lifetime he enjoyed careers in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve (Stationed on Tinian Island during WWII and retired after 20 years), banking (Top Secret Test Words), and many other talents “You Name it He did itâ€! Danny was a Member of the American Legion-Post 791, Member of Knights of Columbus #9425, U.S. Naval Enlisted Reserve Unit, Washington, D.C., and a lifetime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, GG Pop-Pop and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Phyllis M Ames, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his daughter, Rosemary Flanigan, of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Therèsé Rose(Michael) Ames-Count, Jennifer (Daniel) Soos, Daniel Joseph Ames, and Therese Rose Ames; five great grandchildren, Margaret Marie Count , Juliette Patricia Soos, James Daniel Soos, Trinity Rose Soos, and Margaret Ames; 3 loving sisters-in-law: Eleanor, Veronica, and Frances and a brother-in-law: Richard his loving furry friend, Daisy; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents; one sister, Margaret Moran; his first wife, Rose Mary O'Connell Ames; son, Daniel Terrence Ames; Brothers-in-law, Robert Raymond, Daniel O’Connell, Daniel Kane, John Schreiber and John Gallagher; sisters-in-law, Virginia Schreiber and Mary Gallagher; and son-in-law, James Flanigan. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Christ Our King-Stella Maris Catholic School, 1183 Russell Drive, Mt.
