Daisy Lee Gibson Massey died on Monday, January 30. She was born in Saluda, SC, on November 12, 1945, but lived most of her life in the Columbia, SC area. She was the daughter of the late Rufus Harvey and Ruby Lee Sanders Gibson. She graduated from Hollywood High School in Saluda and Columbia Commercial College. She was employed by the State of SC as an administrative assistant for over 21 years. She was a member of Mt Hebron United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women since 1967 and held various offices in her circle and the UMW at several churches over the years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Reese M. Massey, Jr., her parents, and brothers: R.A. (Alton) Gibson, Carl Rufus Gibson, and Doyle Wesley Gibson. She is survived by her son Robert Power (Chris) of Cayce; daughter Margaret Power (Marshall New) of Lexington; sister Sandra G. Blount of Panama City Beach, FL; sister-in-law Loretta Gibson of Saluda, SC; and stepchildren: Kory Cole (Stephen), Julie Hays (Steve), and Martin Massey (Sonya); many step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, February 3, from 6 - 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 200 State Street, West Columbia. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia. Burial will be at Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mt Hebron UMC or Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS) or your local Meals on Wheels program.
