Cornelia D 'Nelie' Thomas (Davenport)

Cornelia D Thomas, 90, of Charleston, SC died on Monday, May 19, 2014 in Mt. Pleasant, SC, 'Nelie' was born on Thursday, November 22, 1923 in Charleston, SC to the late Hilda W. Davenport and Isaac H. Davenport. Nelie graduated North Charleston High School, and began a wonderful and fulfilling 30 year career with C & S Bank on Broad Street, retiring in 1990. She married the late Bill Thomas on April 27, 1946 and the two were dedicated to one another for 65 years. Nelie was a member of Bethany Methodist Church of Riverland Terrace for over fifty years. Throughout her life she guided her four children, eight grand-children and two great grand-children by instilling in them the importance of love and family. Nelie is survived by four Loving children: Nancy D. Thomas, Mary T. West (Tim), Joy T. Slaughter (Chuck), and William W. Thomas Jr. (Coy) all of Charleston, SC; Eight Grandchildren; Allison W. Stone (Alex), Matthew T. West, Joseph H. West, Charles T. Slaughter, Thomas G. Slaughter, William W. Thomas III (Laura), Hampton R. Thomas, and Elliott D. Thomas; Two Great Grandchildren; Mary Margaret Stone, Alexander D. Stone V. One sister; Carol D. Haywood (Paul) of Paducah, KY, special cousin Hannah Love Williamson of Camden, ME; Sister-In-Law, Jean Thomas, of Charleston, SC; Nephew, Tom Tuten (Nancy) of Columbia, SC; and Neice, Marion T. Gilchrist (Joe) of Charleston, SC. She was preceded by her two sisters, Florence D. Tuten (Tom), and Betty Davenport. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2014 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Friends and family will gather from 1:00 PM until time of service. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Rd. James Island, SC 29412. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464 and The Hibben United Methodist Church, 600 Coleman Blvd., Mt.
