Cora L. Beasenburg, 75, of Charleston, wife of the late Joe Beasenburg, passed away on Monday, January 08, 2018.
Cora was born on March 21, 1942 in the mountains of Dungannon, Virginia to the late Guy McConnell and Helen Lemmons McConnell. After graduating from Dungannon High School, she moved to Washington, DC, where she worked in civil service at the Pentagon. She met her husband and together they moved to Charleston where she continued her work in civil service at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. She retired after 20 years and began a second career incorporating her love of boating by co-founding Charleston Marine Services. She spent more than 20 years working with the Charleston boating community which included many years as “the voice on the radio” for TowBoat US. She was a member of the James Island Yacht Club, an active member of her church, a lover of animals, and a resident of James Island for more than 50 years. She was a humble servant to God, devoted to her family and is remembered best for her love for her children and grandchildren.
Cora is survived by three sons: Tony Beasenburg and his wife Cindy of Charleston, SC, Joey Beasenburg and his wife Shelly of Charleston, SC, and Mark Beasenburg and his wife Jill of Mount Pleasant, SC; ten grandchildren: Tye, Ryan and Madison Beasenburg of Charleston; Cody, Bailey, Carter and Riley Beasenburg of Charleston; Mya, Luke, and Abby Beasenburg of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers: Everett McConnell (Jackie) of Gate City, VA and Bill McConnell (Peggy) of Gate City, VA; and two sisters: Mary Belle Williams (Arthur) of Gate City, VA and Rena Bolas (Jerome) of Kingsport, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister: Margaret Collins of Gate City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at New Beginnings Church 89 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
The Celebration of Life service will be at the church at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
