Charles Richard McDearis

Charles Richard McDearis, 82, of Mount Pleasant, SC, Apalachicola, FL, and Calhoun, GA, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Born on October 7, 1939, in Calhoun, GA, Charles was a son of the late Glenn Buford McDearis and Odell Davis McDearis.

Charles was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists serving as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Director for several hospitals in Northwest Georgia and North Florida for more than 45 years. He was an accomplished musician, joining his first band, The Kingsmen, at age 13. Over the years he performed as a member of numerous bands and as a soloist, entertaining crowds across the southeast. He was the Pianist for Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun for over thirty years, where he also served as the Youth Choir Director. He was an avid boater and accomplished remote control airplane hobbyist. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy McDearis.

Charles is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Monte and Brandi Frye McDearis of Nashville, TN, Kevin and Tracy MacLeod McDearis of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Mason, Scarlett, Carson, Bailey and Madison McDearis and Keegan and Nicholas MacLeod; four great-grandchildren, Hanson, Adler, Ronan and Penny MacLeod; the mother of his sons, Theresia McDearis Walraven; his sisters-in-law Elaine Adams McDearis and Ann Grizzle Emerson; and his niece and nephew Rhonda McDearis Jordan and Devaughn Grizzle.

Funeral services and burial will be held in his hometown of Calhoun, GA. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, where friends may greet the family from 5pm to 8pm at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, 711 College Street, Calhoun, GA. Funeral services will begin at 1pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Belmont Baptist Church, 275 West Belmont Drive, Calhoun, GA, where the body will lie in state from noon until 1pm. Interment will follow at Chandler Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Charles’ memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
