Charles Earl Foster, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016. Charles Foster was born on December 18, 1926 in Charleston, SC to the late Joshua Barker Foster and the late Louisa Kent Follin Foster. He graduated from Porter Military Academy in 1944 then went on to graduate from the College of Charleston in 1949. He continued his education at Georgetown University and Oxford University. He served in the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard, obtaining the rank of LTJG. He owned and operated the Charles E. Foster Employment Company. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, and College of Charleston Alumni Association. Survivors include his nieces, Louise McTeer Chase of Augusta, GA, and Adela McTeer Deason of Waynesboro, GA, and his nephew, William W. McTeer of Sylvania, GA. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the French Huguenot Church, 136 Church St., Charleston, SC. Following the service, a reception will be held at Charles Foster’s home. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org.
