Charles Cronin Smiley, 61, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Charley was born on Tuesday, November 11, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Doug and Mary Smiley. Charley was a bright, charismatic sales professional who began his career in the high-tech industry with the onset of personal computing, and grew with the industry. Charley loved the beach, golf, baseball, books, music and laughter. He shared his passion for technology, music, and humor with his sons who carry these same passions with them. Charley’s love for, and pride in his boys was apparent to all who knew him. Growing up with a father in the military, Charley and his family enjoyed adventures around the world in fascinating places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Cuba, and Ethiopia. As an adult, travel continued to be an important part of his life. He always enjoyed sharing colorful stories of people met along the way, and had a special place in his heart for the beautiful island and warm people of Jamaica. Charley's enormous personality, sense of humor, and interest in people will be sorely missed. He is survived by his two sons; Justin Smiley, of Richmond, VA and Sean Smiley of Stafford, VA. His two brothers; Bob Smiley and Doug Smiley, and two sisters; Mary Lou Bianchetti and Anne Marie Smiley, and five nephews. Those who desire to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to do so in Charley's name to a charity or organization of their choice.
