Cecil “CC” Leo Beckmann, 86, of Summerville, SC, husband of 52 years to Louise Rush Beckmann, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at his home. He was born January 28, 1932 in Beaufort, SC, to the late Walter and Kathryn (Johnson) Beckmann.
Apart from his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister; Carlton Gay, Katherine Liner, David, Walter, and Kenneth Beckmann.
Cecil grew up in Charleston, SC. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from Bishop England High School. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1952-1960. He went on to work for Chiquita Bananas, later known as United Fruit Company. He retired after 49 years as the East, West, and Gulf Coast Port Manager. He travelled extensively in the United States and abroad, and managed ports in Seattle, WA, Long Beach, CA, Boston, MA, Baltimore, MD, Newark, NJ, and Wilmington, DE, until his retirement. Cecil loved life and was good to all people.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 6:00PM-7:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 1:00PM-2:00PM in the same location. Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
