Carolyn F 'Granny' Tapia

Carolyn F. Tapia, 72, of Charleston, SC passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015. She was born on Monday, June 7, 1943, in Charleston, SC, to the late Ada Mintz Simmons and the late Grover L Simmons. Carolyn loved working in her yard; planting flowers; cooking, especially her favorite macaroni and cheese; baking cakes and especially spending time with her family. She always put others’ needs before her own. Her family will remember her as the most loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Besides her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by six siblings. She is survived by three daughters: Karen Coleman of Ravenel, SC and Karen’s husband, Charles, of Rock Hill, SC; Gail Barfield of Savannah, GA; Maria Tapia of TX; two sons: Domingo Tapia and his wife, Delores, of Summerville, SC; and Felipe Tapia and his wife, Gisella, of Ladson, SC; granddaughter (daughter) Danielle Hardee and her husband, Blake, of Ravenel, SC; 15 grandchildren: Jimmy, Robby, Marie, Michael, Justin, Kimberly, Yajaira, Andrew, Anthony, Carmen, Chelsea, Isabella, Maria, Harmony and Kadyn; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Simmons of James Island, SC; three sisters: Patricia Lindberg of James Island, SC; Judy Powell of Aiken, SC and Jeanette Molizon of Fountain Inn, SC; and her best friend, Sarah Wells of Beaufort, SC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
