Carole "Lynn" Winters Ziegler, 76, of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on February 9, 2019 after a battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia.
She was born on October 26, 1942 in Statesville, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Mary Fesperman and William Winters.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Brownie Winters and her loving husband, Paul Ziegler.
She is survived by her son Shane (Morgan) Ziegler of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina; grandchildren: Winters, Woods and Lucy Ziegler; sisters: Beth Parrish and Judy Cain; and brother, Billy Winters.
Lynn was a star high school athlete in numerous sports with a super competitive spirit, which continued throughout her life. She had a compassionate heart which led her to volunteer, with a specific passion for helping the elderly. She was the Chairwoman of the Sunrise Presbyterian Church rebuilding committee, that helped to reconstruct Sunrise Church after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo in 1989. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and sister; as well as a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Paul. A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and was a passionate lifetime Tarheel. After a career in education, her adventurous spirit led her to sell all her possessions and travel to England , where she met her future husband, Paul, an executive with Coca Cola. After returning stateside they lived in Atlanta, until Paul's retirement, when they relocated to Wild Dunes (Isle of Palms, SC) in 1987. Together they enjoyed golfing, socializing with their many friends and being active members of Sunrise Presbyterian Church and continuing to travel the world together. As a final act of selflessness, Lynn made the generous act of donating her brain to Northwestern University to help further research for a possible treatment and cure for PPA.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2 PM at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle St, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482.
