Carol Lynne Brittsan, MPAS PA-C, of Mt. Pleasant, SC completed her journey through life on September 24, 2024. Carol left this world peacefully in her sleep while on a medical mission trip in Honduras, volunteering with Partners 4 Global Health. Her preparation and supplies helped the team complete their mission and assisted countless people in need.
She was born on August 21, 1959 in San Diego, CA. Carol lived a large portion of her life in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, settling in Mt. Pleasant for the last 12 years.
Carol graduated from Goose Creek High School in 1977. She was the first in her family to attend college, doing so at the College of Charleston, class of 1981. This was followed by two years of study at the Medical University of South Carolina. She earned her most recent degree, Masters in Physician Assistant Studies, from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2016. Her career as a Physician Assistant included work in Ultrasonography and Vascular Care, Wound and Burn Care, and finally Bariatric Medicine at Roper St. Francis Healthcare.
Her life was filled by a deep love of her two cats, Lizzie and Maggie, who brought her joy and companionship every day. Her devotion to the cats was evident in her care and attention she gave them and in return they gave back a never-ending supply of happiness and unconditional love.
Carol dedicated her life to helping others, not just through her work but also through mentoring and volunteering. She also took time for herself. If there was an opportunity to get a stamp in her passport, she took it. She loved cruising. Her last cruise was to Alaska, just three weeks prior to her trip to Honduras. She looked forward to retirement and traveling more.
Carol is survived by her three sons, Andrew Pennebaker of Wauwatosa, WI, Joseph Pennebaker and wife, Amelia Kastelberg of Atlanta, GA, and Evan Pennebaker of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her mother, Yolanda Brittsan of Goose Creek, SC; her sisters, Karen Hubert and husband, Pat Hubert of Hanahan, SC and Cheryl Brittsan of Jacksonville, FL; her two brothers, Jerome Brittsan of Indianapolis, IN and Tim Brittsan and wife, Manda Brittsan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Brittsan.
