Carl Anthony Ulm

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Carl Anthony Ulm, 68, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Heaven gained another angel on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Born on February 16, 1956 in Augusta, GA.

Preceded in joining the Lord by: his parents, Josephine Ulm and Joseph Ulm. Survived by: his wife of 43 years, Gayle Ulm; son, Barrett Ulm; son, Carl Ulm II (CJ); daughter, Averie Ulm; grand-dogs Piper Lou, Briland Lou, and Big Bip; brother, Joseph Ulm Jr.; brother, Eric Ulm; brother, William Ulm; sister, Julia Ulm; sister Mary Scott. Coming from a large family, Carl knew the importance of relationships. This was reflected in how he benevolently cared for, provided for, and deeply loved the people in his life to include family, friends, employees, business associates, and strangers alike.

There was no one like Carl. Known to some as “Consistent Carl” as he was the same authentic and transparent person Monday through Saturday as he was on Sundays in church. He had a huge heart with an immeasurable amount of love for Jesus, his family, and his friends. He was known for his loud and contagious laugh, bright smile, and sense of humor. He was extremely generous and loved to help others. Carl was known for prioritizing the important things in life with God always being number one followed by family being number two and so on. His profound faith shined through even when faced with the most difficult trials and tribulations. He said the blessing before every meal regardless if he was eating alone or with a group. He often tipped big, gave to people behind the scenes, and helped people when they encountered issues with family or business matters. He never wanted or expected anything in return. He was a loving husband and father to his wife and children, who were also his best friends. He was admired by many for his honesty, integrity, and humble spirit.

In the professional world of the construction industry, he was an excellent, ethical, and successful businessman who was well-known and highly-respected by his employees, vendors, and General Contractors across the southeast. He guaranteed and committed to providing top quality work and would make things right no matter the cost even if it was at his expense. He valued and took care of his employees beyond what most bosses and companies could fathom or do.

Golfing and fishing were two of his favorite hobbies. As a much-loved member of Bulls Bay Golf Club, you could usually find him out on the course playing golf with his sons and friends. He had his Captain’s License and loved all types of fishing but offshore was his favorite. Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10) was the name of his off-shore fishing boat. He chose that distinct name because it offered an opportunity for him to witness to others about Jesus and how his life changed after he was saved. Anyone that knows him likely has at least one photo of him holding up a fish or playing golf.

Carl loved to travel and try different culinary cuisines with his family and friends. He was also quite the chef himself. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking and often made large portions to share. All who had the opportunity to try any of his dishes, especially fresh fish, begged for more and requested to have an invite next time.

"I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid."
