Carl Everett Plaisted Jr.

Carl Everett Plaisted Jr., 83, of James Island, SC, passed away peacefully in the Ladson home of his daughter on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, surrounded by loved ones, after a long struggle with cancer. He was born on Monday, April 10, 1933, in Weld, ME, son of the late Shirley Vining Plaisted and the late Carl Plaisted Sr. He joined the United States Navy two weeks before graduating from Edward Little High School of Auburn, ME. Carl moved to Charleston, SC, and married his high school sweetheart, Faye Lilly Jones, on May 2, 1953, at St. Philips Church. He worked as a mechanic in the Navy, was a champion chess player, and was an avid gardener, as was evident by his bountiful property on James Island. Carl’s family will remember him as a kind man with a wonderful sense of humor, affectionately known as “HaHa” by his grandchildren, close friends and family. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye Jones Plaisted, and their son, Ralph E. Plaisted. Carl is survived by his two daughters Carlene Werner, and her husband Earl, of Ebony, VA and Joyce Coto, and her husband, Mark, of Ladson, SC; his former daughter-in-law, Kathy Brewer, of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren: Elizabeth Washington and her husband, Rodney, of Charleston, SC; Jessica Belcher and her husband, Luke, of Summerville, SC; Brion Packett and his wife, Julie, of Summerville, SC and Jade Custer and her husband, Graham, of Sarasota, FL; and Brandi Packett and her fiancé, Casey Chapman, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Joyce Plaisted Gyles of Palermo, ME; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. A private graveside service will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Coto home for friends and family on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
