Bruce Max Bebensee

Bruce Max Bebensee passed away peacefully at the Savannah Grace Skilled Nursing Unit on Tuesday, October 30th.
Bruce was born on August 20, 1918 in Treynor, Iowa, the son of Max and Belle Bebensee. A Forestry graduate of Iowa State University, he moved to Meridian, MS in 1940 to help start up the then-new Flintkote Company insulation board plant as a Forester. Over the course of his 40-year career at Flintkote, he rose through the ranks to become Personnel Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, and ultimately Plant Manager. He retired from Flintkote shortly after the Meridian plant was purchased by Owens Corning Fiberglass.
Bruce was a World War II Veteran who, over the course of his military service, served in the U. S. Navy, the U. S. Army, and the U.S. Army Air Corps. In Meridian he was an active member and officer of the Kiwanis Club, serving for many years as the Key Club Advisor for Meridian High School. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, an Elder, and as Chair of the Board of Elders.
Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Eileen Plunkett Bebensee. He is survived by their son Mark A. Bebensee and daughter-in-law Mary Pounder Bebensee of Charleston, SC, as well as two grandchildren, Alan J. Bebensee of Charleston and Lorraine B. Parks and her husband Christopher D. Parks of Rock Hill, SC.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church, in Meridian, MS; with visitation in the Sanctuary one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Christian Church of Meridian (1301 23rd Avenue, Meridian, MS. 39301) or to Embrace Hospice (880 Whipple Road, Suite 100, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464).
