Brad Jerome Edler, 62, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with his wife and son at his side.
Born on July 5, 1961. in Charleston, SC, Brad was a son of the late Margaret Byers Edler and the late Walter Edler.
After graduating from college, Brad had a long career with the federal government starting as a radiation control technician, was an instructor in the Navy Nuclear Program and moving up to Emergency Management Specialist with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Energy where he was honored with a Distinguished Career Service Award. Brad worked on committees with the White House and the FBI. Retiring after 35 years of government service, he worked briefly as a contractor for Cherokee Nation at the Savannah River Site in Emergency Management, until he was not able to work.
Brad loved the outdoors. He was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed boating, skiing and the beach. He found beauty in nature. He was always up for an adventure, especially if it involved bourbon. Brad was a lover of animals and had many throughout his life. His sense of humor was incomparable and made even the toughest of situations better. He strived to make everyone comfortable. He loved family, always put them first and was his son's hero.
Brad is preceded in death by his father, Walter Edler and mother, Margaret Byers Edler.
Brad is survived by his wife of 34 years, Catherine Edler; son, Conrad Edler; brother, Cliff Edler (Jane); in-laws; nieces; a nephew; and his faithful companions: Izzie, Murphie and Chance.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road in Charleston, SC.
