Bobby Joe Hosmer, 79, of Cross, SC, died at his home May 14, 2016. Born March 21, 1937 in Dora, AL, he was the son of the late Joseph S. Hosmer and Otto Edna Kelly. After high school he joined the United States Army, where he served his country honorably for twenty two years as a Crypto Communications and Radio Mag Router and became a war veteran after serving in Vietnam. He retired as a Sergeant First Class and was in the 101st Airborne Division, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and 82nd Airborne Division. During his military services he received a Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campain Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Senior Parachute Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Bobby was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He loved nature, being outdoors and camping. Bobby loved and cared for all animals and he especially loved going on hikes with his dog, Lucy. He was an avid poet and contributed to newspaper editorials. Bobby is survived by his children, Chad Hosmer and wife Lori of Moncks Corner, Bobbi Jo Alonso and husband Wayne of Bradenton, FL, Raymond Rogers and wife Babette of Bradenton, FL and Terry Rogers and wife Lisa of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Lauren, Kayla, Craig, Kristine, Jessica, Cody, Taylor, Reanna, Nicholas and Zachary; siblings, Ruthie Mae Gilbreath, Mildred Watkins, Odell Roberts, Carlton Hosmer and Raymond Hosmer; former wife, Linda Hatcher of Bradenton, FL. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers, James B. “J.B.†Hosmer and Henry Hosmer. A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL.
