Blake Edward Barker

Blake Edward Barker, age 7, of Mt. Pleasant South Carolina, passed away from complications due to chronic medical conditions, Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born on December 19, 2009 in Pembroke Pines, Florida to his parents Michael and Jennifer Barker. Blake previously attended Mt. Pleasant Academy and most recently, Carolina Park. His life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him knew that his existence and purpose was to bring joy to his family and those who loved him. His smile could melt your heart. He was an avid traveler with his family which took him all over our great country: Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, New York, Boston and Disney World (several times) and the Poconos- where Blake skied with his family for the first time. His favorite buddy was Woody from Toy Story who traveled with him everywhere. Blake enjoyed the simple things in life and nature; like sunny days, the beach, listening to the birds and chocolate and lollipops. One of his greatest accomplishments was recently participating in the Charleston Bridge Run in 2017, with the group Racers for Pacers. With this organization, he was able to “run” 5K’s and 10k’s in the area with his pacer, Victor.
Blake is survived by his adoring parents, Michael and Jennifer Barker of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Mercedes (14) and Angelina (11); grandparents Joan (Joe) Davis and Sandi (Chris) Stanton; great grandparents: Ralph Grode, Dottie & John Medeiros and Joanne & Edward Hanophy; aunts Jacquelyn (David) Anderson; uncles Ed (Jen) Barker, Andrew (Paige) Barker and Kyle Hanophy; cousins A.J., Kayden, Makayla, Logan, Matthew and Dailey. As well as many other loving great- aunts/uncles, second cousins and many others. Blake was preceded in death by his great grandmothers Sylvia Grode, Gertrude Glanzman and Rose Barker; great grandfathers Eugene Glanzman and Edward Barker; Grandfathers Robert Barker and Thomas Medeiros; Uncle John Medeiros, cousin Melody Sexton and family friend Rosalie Emanuel. The family will receive friends Friday evening, November 10, 2017 from 6 PM- 8 PM at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1520 RIFLE RANGE ROAD, MT. PLEASANT, SC, 29464. Services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Racers for Pacers, Hemispherectomy Foundation, The Brain Recovery Project, St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cleveland Clinic Children's Neurology, Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland.
