Billie L DeChant

Billie Lindsey DeChant, 78, of Goose Creek, SC passed away on October 4, 2024 in Charleston, SC.

Billie was born in Jacksonville, FL to Virginia Greene and William Lindsey on August 30, 1946. She married David James DeChant, Sr. on May 21, 1966. She was a Navy wife who devoted her life to raising her two kids while her husband was out at sea. Once her kids got older she started working as a Head Secretary for Stratford High School in Berkeley County, SC. She was a member of her church, St. James United Methodist Church, a member of the DAMES within the church, and also an Eastern Star. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, reading, going out with her closest friends, but most importantly she loved her family. Billie would find any reason to have a cookout just to spend time with the ones she loved the most. She knew no stranger, everyone who knew her loved her and she loved them right back. She had the most outgoing, free spirit and will be very much missed by her family and friends. 

Billie is preceded in death by her parents, William Lindsey and Virginia Greene, as well as her brother and sisters. 

Billie is survived by her husband of 58 years, David J. DeChant, Sr.; her children, David J. DeChant, Jr. and Kelly DeChant Radcliff (Johnny); her 5 grandchildren who she thought the world of, Corey DeChant (Kailah), Lindsey Coleman, Morgan Ackerman (Jeffrey), Zachary Radcliff, and Michael Radcliff; and her 3 great-grandchildren, Jack DeChant, Olivia Coleman, and Kingston Radcliff. 

The family is holding a viewing on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445.

The service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 starting at 10:00am at St. James United Methodist Church, 512 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445. The burial will be held at Plantation Memorial Gardens in Moncks Corner, SC. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and/or the Shriners Hospital.
