Betty Ann Brandhorst

Betty Ann Brandhorst, 73, of Goose Creek passed away Sunday November 8, 2015, at her residence. Betty was born August 25, 1942, in Waterloo, IA, to the late Gerald and Luella Hamlyn. She moved to Goose Creek, SC, in the early 1970’s where she worked for special services at the Naval Weapon Station. Betty then became the Director of Naval Youth Activities for the Navy; a job that she cherished and loved. She made many friends over the years with her co-workers and the children as well. Many of the children are grown now, and would always tell her what a difference she made in their lives. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Saylor (Jeffrey), of Valley Lee, MD; Belinda Sue Woolard (Dalton), of Virginia Beach, VA; and one son, William “Bill” Dewitt Brandhorst, Jr. (Marcia) of Orangeburg, SC; brothers, Jerry Hamlyn (Pam) of Iowa; sister, Janet Hickman of Iowa; grandchildren, Jeff, Brittany, Ashleigh, Haleigh, Sarah, Chelsie, Haven, Chandler, Michael, Matt and Megan; six great grandchildren; her shih tzu, Patches; a very special friend, Rick Bounds; and all of her friends that hung out at St. James Place. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Rollie Gorman and her brother-in-law, Jack Hickman. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 5:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel. The family welcomes friends to gather after the service until 7:00 pm.
