Barbara Sparks Lawing

Barbara Sparks Lawing, age 62, of Summerville, South Carolina passed away on April 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. The relatives and friends of Barbara Lawing are invited to attend her Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 29, 2017 in the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.

Barbara was born in Waynesboro, Virginia, daughter of Dolly Sparks and the late William Burnett Sparks. She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia in 1973. She resided with her late sister, Patricia Strailey, and was soon employed with the C & P Telephone Company in Maryland as an Installation and Repair Technician following her graduation. Barbara would progress to hold other jobs atypical for females at the time, including Traffic Signal Electrician with the City of Charlotte in North Carolina. As much pride and passion as she had for her work, family always remained paramount to Barbara, she loved each of her sons and was so proud of their accomplishments. Barbara will always be remembered for her equitable generosity, who kept an open heart and home for friends, family and all God’s creatures.

Barbara is survived by her mother Dolly Sparks; her brother Phillip Sparks; her 3 sons: William Graham Lawing, Jr.; Eric Alan Lawing and Kyle Thomas Lawing; grandchildren: Benjamin Isaac Lawing and Ashton Taylor Lawing.
