Barbara Louise Moon, 85, of Aviston, IL, formerly of Goose Creek, SC, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL. Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Retha Bonia and wife to the late Harold R. Moon. Barbara is survived by her four children: Richard Moon and his wife, Penny, of Aviston, IL; Dianne Smith and her husband, Larry, of Tennessee; Stephen Gebhardt of New Hampshire; and Shirley Murray of Tennessee. Among her large family of siblings, she is survived by two sisters, Frances Donohue and Dorothy McGee, and a brother, Eddie Bonia, all residing in Massachusetts. Barbara is also survived by several grandchildren and a great grandson. Barbara lived in Goose Creek for 40 years until shortly after her husband’s passing in 2009, at which point she moved to Aviston, IL to be closer to Richard and Penny. Barbara was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved to read mystery and suspense novels, dance the jitterbug, and paint - she was an accomplished folk art painter. Graveside service will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends prior to service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL.
