Barbara Jane Doyle, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died on Monday, March 2, 2015. She was born on Sunday, November 26, 1922 in England, to the late Mrs. Lenore Ivey and the late Mr. Lytle Frederickson. Barbara was a graduate of Butler University and travelled the world with her husband and children. After settling in the Charleston area she became actively involved with the Middleton Place Foundation, beginning as a volunteer in 1974 and becoming a staff member in 1977. At Middleton Place she served as historian, archivist, researcher, and genealogist. She was the editor of the Foundation’s Notebook for over three decades; co-author of the publication Beyond the fields: Slavery at Middleton Place; and editorial and research assistance for Middleton Place: A Phoenix Still Rising. Her family will remember her as loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by three sons, Padraic Doyle, of Oakland, CA, Liam S. Doyle, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Kevin Doyle , of Boulder, CO; three grand-children, Zebediah, Nathan, and Tiernan Doyle, many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents, her husband of over forty years, William J. Doyle, and two daughters, Michael Ann Doyle and Brigid P. Doyle. A Memorial Gathering will be held at Middleton Place, 4300 Ashley River Road, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at 1 PM.
