JAMES ISLAND --Barbara Driggers Platt, 82, of James Island passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014. She was born on Wednesday, March 23, 1932 in Charleston, SC to the late late Ely Anderson Driggers and Martha Isadora Driggers. She was a lifelong Charleston resident and a member of James Island Baptist Church. Barbara was widowed after 50 years of marriage to Paul Walter Platt, a former local artist. She will be deeply missed by her family including her brother, Charles K. Driggers (Carolyn) of North Chesterfield, VA, two brothers-in-law, A. A. “Sonny†Haupt of Summerville, Eugene Platt (Judith) of James Island, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, “Miss Kittyâ€. Barbara was predeceased by her siblings including; her brothers, E. E. Driggers, A. M. Driggers, H. A. Driggers, R. M. Driggers, Sr. and her sisters, Agnes Pritchard, Lil Driggers, Hazel Bryant, Marguerite Burbage, Florie Burton, Lena Bennett, Dorothy Haupt, and Betty Mitchum The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8PM, April 17, 2014 at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL, 347 FOLLY RD, CHARLESTON, SC. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11AM at James Island Baptist Church with interment to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston.
