Barbara Ann Derrick Ph.D.

Barbara Ann Derrick, 94 of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Born on July 28, 1930 in Johnston, SC was a daughter of the late Mary (Bouknight) Derrick and Homer O. Derrick.

Barbara completed high school at Dreher High School, a Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of South Carolina, a Master's degree of Divinity from Garrett Seminary and a Ph. D. from Southwest University. Barbara enjoyed writing all of her life and published many articles in magazines including The United Methodist Publishing House and Morehouse Barlow. Barbara also authored two books.

A third generation retired United Methodist minister, Barbara was a retired Marriage and Family Therapist.

Dr. Derrick leaves behind three adult children: David A. Davis of The Isle of Palms, SC; Mary Anne Davis (Ken Marquard) of Carbondale, IL and Donna D. Jones (Joel) of Columbia, SC. Barbara also leaves four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Spell Chapel at Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, SC. Bethany UMC is located at 118 W 3rd St. in Summerville, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Association of Research and Enlightenment at 215 67th Street; Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or to a charity of one's choice.
