Austin Milan Morrissey, III

Austin Milan Morrissey III, 54, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

Born on January 14, 1970, in New York, NY, he was the son of Jean Horn and Austin Morrissey.

Austin is survived by his son, Colin Seastrand; daughter, Coral Seastrand; parents, Austin Morrissey and Jean Horn; sisters, Renee Marsden and Eve Morrissey; nephews, Maxwell Hand, Michael Terreri, Austin Terreri, and Shea Quashie; nieces, AbbyRuth Terreri, Elisa Hand, and Angie hand; stepmother, JoAnn Close; stepfather, Rik Caron; former spouse and mother of his children, Kristin Seastrand; and many close friends

Austin was an avid fisherman, an extremely talented carpenter, and a workaholic. Austin grew up in Madison, CT before moving to MA where he fished for many years in the general area of Cape Cod and Buzzards Bay. He would also dive for and trap lobsters, and spent a significant amount of time on and around the water.

He was a carpenter in all senses of the word. From constructing buildings to making cabinets, furniture, fences, and instruments, he could do it all, but his specialty was intricate work and finish carpentry. Many of the pieces of furniture that he had built 20+ years ago are still being used by friends and family and the appearance and functionality that they preserve is a testament to the detail and quality that he has instilled in every piece of his work.

More recently, he had taken up refurbishing instruments and building mandolins from scratch as a side hobby apart from his main work. He truly loved what he did and could tell you anything about it.

He loved to watch the Patriots, and loved to watch Dale Earnhardt Jr. win Nascar races, even naming his cat "little 8", after Dale's iconic Budweiser-sponsored Chevrolet.

He was loud, adventurous, bold, hilarious, opinionated, passionate, and often times inappropriately sarcastic. Austin was a tremendously tough person. Most importantly, he had a heart of gold and he loved his family.

The family will receive friends on a day to be determined in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to pethelpers.org , a local animal shelter in Charleston. Austin loved animals and had many pets throughout his life.
