Arthur Joe Browning, 90 of Moncks Corner, South Carolina died May 14, 2023, at Trident Hospital. Joe was born October 19, 1932, in Elloree, South Carolina, the third child of the late LeRoy and Tressie Luqueen Griffin Browning.
He is predeceased by his brother, John William Browning, and sister, Velma Eunice Danner.
Mr. Joe is survived by his wife, Sylvia B. Browning, whom he married September 27, 1956, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wheeling, West Virginia; son, Roy Frederick (Sally) Browning and daughter, Virginia Lynne Dubay both of Moncks Corner; grandsons, Bryan G. (Sarah) Dubay, of Orlando, Florida, Brent A. (Samantha) Dubay of Charleston, Brady P. (Grace) Dubay of Columbia; granddaughters, Darla B. (Hai) Nguyen of Summerville, Cara B. (Dan) Darrow of Livonia, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Molly K. Dubay, Kaison T. Nguyen, Mailee T. Nguyen, Jackson B. Dubay, and Elaiza R. Nguyen; and his many nephews and adopted daughters.
In his early life, Mr. Joe was a trainer for thoroughbred racehorses and traveled the tracks on the east coast. He retired as a carpenter, a finish carpenter, and from Sam Solomon Company. He was a lifelong member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church of Elloree, Goose Creek Masonic Lodge No. 401, Omar Shrine Temple, Berkeley Shrine Club, and the Order of Eastern Star No. 277.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, building wooden furniture, square dancing, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and gardening.
Friends and Family will be received at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Friday, May 19, 2023, from 6-8 PM where a Masonic Service will be held. There will also be a viewing Saturday, May 20, 2023, 12-1 PM at Jerusalem United Methodist Church prior to the service. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 1 PM, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church, 7361 Old Number 6 Hwy., Santee, South Carolina. Reverend Rick Atkinson will be officiating. The burial will follow in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery and a celebration to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Joe requested memorials be made to Jerusalem United Methodist Church, PO Box 366, Elloree, SC 29047, or to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
