Arleen Margaret Kadri, 85 of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Born on May 21, 1937 in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Margaret Shahid Adry and Aziz Adry.
Arleen is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Kadri, her son, Jamiel (Bridgette), and her grandchildren, John Sidney, Zelie, "Bo", and Violette.
She is also survived by her sister, Lorice Adry McMahon, her sister in law, Theresa Kadri Andrews. On her side of the family, she is survived by her nieces and nephews, Marla McMahon, Angela Googer (Marc), Alan McMahon (Michelle), Maureen Richberg (Kevin), and great nieces and nephews, Austin Googer, Dylan Googer, Adry Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Hunter Cone, Anna Margaret Richberg, Julia McMahon, Guy McMahon, and Caroline McMahon. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family who are all over the United States, Canada, Australia and Lebanon.
She was predeceased by her brother, Bernard Solomon Adry and her infant son, Nicholas.
Arleen was also known as "Sugar" to her family and "Sitty," (Arabic for grandmother). She graduated from Bishop England High School in 1955, attended Mt Saint Agnes College in Baltimore and graduated from St Francis School of Nursing, class of 1959. She worked as an operating room nurse at St. Francis and MUSC. In later years, Arleen worked for DHEC Children's Rehabilitation Services. During the late 80s and 90s, Arleen also substitute taught at Wando High School. She supported John in his various businesses, handling the bookkeeping, customer service and other administrative responsibilities.
Mom loved her Catholic Faith and strived to live it to the fullest. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. She also loved to play bridge and was an excellent card player. She taught Sunday School at her home parish, Christ Our King Catholic Church for 12 years, where she was a parishioner since 1975. She also loved to paint and do ceramics and in her later years, this took the form of arts and crafts, making things like bookmarks for people.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. Rosary will begin at 5:15pm with The Nurse Honor Guard to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 10th at Christ Our King Catholic Church 1149 Russell Drive, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464. Entombment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, SC.
A special heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Bridget Graddick, Jaci Mariest and Nanetta Rivers and everyone who helped take care of mom over the years.
