Arkina Koenig

Arkina M. Koenig, 95, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 17, 2023.

She was born on 5/27/1928, in Procida, Italy to the late Michele Monte and Annunziata Maurello.  At the age of 8, the family moved and made their home in Naples, Italy.

After completing school in Naples, she was united in holy matrimony on December 5, 1948, to John W. Koenig. This union of 63 years was blessed with four children, ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Everyone that knew Arkina knew that she loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always had a suitcase packed and would jump on a plane, train, and even in a car at the drop of a hat! She loved dancing, bowling, bocce, and playing cards.

Arkina is preceded in death by her husband John W. Koenig who passed on July 18, 2012, her parents Michele and Annunziata, her brothers Nicola Monte, Ernesto Monte, and Eusebio Monte, and her sister Rosa Pack.

She is survived by her four children: John (Giovanna) Koenig of Holly Springs, NC, Elizabeth (Leonard) Sommers of Richburg, SC, Annamarie (Antonio) Koenig of Naples, Italy, Michael (Concetta) Koenig of Naples, Italy; her ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, Giuseppe (Trentino) Monte of Milano, Italy, and two sisters; Maria Monte of Palermo, Italy, and Annamaria Firicano of East Boston, MA; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private memorial gathering will be held by the family.
