Anthony Francis Brodnicki, 85, of Edisto Island, SC, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
He was born on March 14, 1933 in Chicago, IL, to Valeryan and Rose Brodnicki.
After serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Tony graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He had a successful career with Cummins Engine Company, which took him on an adventure to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and then later to Charleston, SC, where he made his home. After taking an early retirement in the mid 1980’s, he opened Maaco Auto Painting and Bodyworks in West Ashley. Eventually, he and his bride, Joan, retired to their own piece of paradise in Edisto Island.
Tony has been an active member in the community, most recently donating his time to the Ministerial Alliance and the Edisto Island Youth Organization. He is also a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus, a former Kiwanis member and an active member St. Frederick and St. Stephens Catholic Church on Edisto Island.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph Brodnicki, Robert Brodnicki and Valeryan Brodnicki.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Nelson Brodnicki of Edisto Island, SC; his sons: Nelson Brodnicki of Adams Run, SC and Gregory Brodnicki (Elaine) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughters: Laura Sailer (Voyta) of Lewisville, NC and Valerie Green (Bo) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: John, Nicholas, Joshua, Michelle, Danielle, Bridgette, Claire and Emma; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Fredrick and St. Stephen Catholic Church, 544 SC 144, Edisto Island, SC 29438.
