Anne Burpee, 80, of Mount Pleasant, wife of Lawrence Burpee, passed away Friday evening, March 16, 2018 at MUSC hospital.
Anne is survived by her husband Lawrence (Laurie), sons Eric Burpee of Ottawa, Canada; Stephen Burpee (Andrea) of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Katherine Anderson (David) of Aurora, Ontario, Canada ; grandchildren Eric Burpee Jr., Lauren Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Brayden Burpee ; and brother Robert (Pat) of Sechelt, BC, Canada.
Anne was born in Montreal, Canada on August 11, 1937, daughter of Albert Brewer Hunt and Marian Virginia (Beattie) Hunt. She graduated with a BA from Bishop’s University in 1958, and a graduate Education degree from McGill University in 1959. Anne then taught at an elementary school near Montreal. She and Laurie were married in Ottawa, Canada on October 14, 1961. She then followed him in his international travels with enthusiasm, a great sense of humor, and amazing ability to adapt to different customs and cultures. They had 12 homes in 4 countries, and all 3 of her children were born in different ones – Switzerland, England and Canada. In all these locations, she did a wonderful job of raising her children and keeping her husband organized!
After retirement, they moved to Kiawah Island in 1997, where Anne and Laurie lived for 18 years. She was very active in her church, Church of Our Saviour, and with Ladies golf and other social organizations on Kiawah. She and Laurie moved to Franke At Seaside in Mount Pleasant in 2015.
Her memorial service will be at 2 pm Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Christ Church, 2304 Highway 17 North, Mount Pleasant. A Reception will follow at Burges Center, Franke At Seaside, 1500 Franke Drive, Mount Pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church or Franke At Seaside.
