Andrea Powers Jones

Andrea Powers Jones, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

Born on November 28, 1941 in Charleston, South Carolina, Andrea was the daughter of the late Ruby Powers (Jones) and Weldon Powers.

Andrea attended Rivers High School and was a 1963 graduate of the College of Charleston.  While at the College of Charleston, she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority.  After graduation, Andrea taught for one year at St. Paul’s High School.  After that, she began her career with Prudential Insurance Company and worked until retirement with Prudential in the office in Charleston, South Carolina.  Andrea met her late husband Martin and got married in June 1972.  Andrea enjoyed spending time sailing and cruising on the boat with Martin and friends and family.  Andrea also loved reading and working on crafts of all kinds.  She loved starting a new project and stretching herself to learn new and different skills.  Toward the end of her life, she developed a love for puzzles and was seldom without one in process.  Andrea had a great love of people and never met a stranger.  She always had a ready smile and a warm hug for everyone she met. 

Andrea is preceded in death by her father, Weldon Powers, her mother, Ruby Powers, her husband, Martin Jones, and her brother James (Jimmy) Powers.

Andrea is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Brady and her son-in-law, Stephen Sperry.  In addition, she also leaves her brother, Paul Powers (Myong), her sister in law, Carolyn Powers, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on September 20, 2022, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes, 1520 Rifle Range Road in Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on September 20, 2022 at Riverview Cemetery in North Charleston, South Carolina.
