Alma Nell Welch (Reardon)

Alma Nell Welch, 76, of Goose Creek, wife of Varnell Welch, passed away December 18, 2013. Nell was born March 11, 1937 in New Zion, SC, a daughter of the late Phillip Reardon and Lorena Burns Reardon. She was the last surviving member of her family. Nell was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening. She was a charter member of Peace Presbyterian Church. Her family remembers her as a wonderful hostess. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Varnell Welch of Goose Creek, 2 daughters, Vonda Marie Strickland and her husband, Doug, of Manning, SC and Norena Dee Welch of Goose Creek; one son, Kyle Welch and his wife, Pam, of Hanahan; 3 grandchildren, Justin Wayne Strickland of Chattanooga, TN, Kelsey Marie Strickland of Kennesaw, GA and Garrett Kyle Welch and his wife, Samantha, of Moncks Corner ; 2 “adopted” daughters, Betty Ann Mehok of Goose Creek and Karen Moore of Charleston and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC, 29445. Interment will follow at Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens in Strawberry. The family will receive friends, Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
