Allen P. Howell, 77, of Timmonsville, SC died on Monday, June 1, 2015 in Mount Pleasant, SC. Allen Howell was born on June 4, 1937. He was raised in St. Stephens, South Carolina, by his parents, Lewis and Olive Mae Howell. He had two sisters, Catherine and Louise, and a brother Ted. He came from a modest upbringing and started working at a very young age. He played several sports in high school when his job permitted. After high school, he enrolled in Spartanburg Methodist Junior College. After graduating, he attended the University of South Carolina where he became an avid Gamecock fan. Following college, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his best friend Gene Smith. After his stint in the Navy, he met his late wife, Beverly. They had three children, Dean, Shawn, and Kimberly. Allen started his own real estate business, Howell & Associates, in 1970. He played a pivotal role in shaping the early development of Mt. Pleasant. Working alongside Allen, is his longtime friend and real estate assistant, Karen Harris, with whom he and his family have a lasting bond. He enjoyed horseback riding, dancing, and traveling. He was a very generous person and was always willing to help people in need. He was a long-time sponsor of sports teams at Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department. Allen was blessed to find love again when he met and married Jeannie. Their greatest joy was spending time with their 9 grandchildren: Lindsey, Hayley, Reese, Jacob, Jeffrey, Murphy, Bo, Ashley, and Keira. In recent months, Allen often reflected on what a wonderful life he has led, and how blessed he has been to have had such an amazing family and friends. He said he, “Couldn’t have asked for anything more, and wouldn’t have changed a thing.†He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Sara Jean Howell, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter; Kimberly D. Perry (Jimmy) of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons: Allen Dean Howell (Cindy) and Shawn Walters Howell (Katherine), both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; stepdaughter, Brittany Raquel Barnes (Zach), of Mogadore, Ohio; two sisters: Louise Rich, of St. Stephens, SC and Catherine Crawford (Darrell), of James Island, SC; nine grandchildren: Lindsey Perry, Hayley Perry, Reese Howell, Jacob Howell, Jeffrey Visher, Murphy Howell, Bo Perry, Ashley Perry and Keira Visher; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly Walters Howell, of Mt. Pleasant, SC in 1994 and one brother; Ted Howell, of St. Stephen, SC. A funeral service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Mt.
