Alice Jansen Swigert

Alice Jansen Swigert, 82 of Meggett, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Alice was born on February 18, 1942, in Akron, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Catherine Jansen (Feudner) and Jacob Jansen. 

She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her father Jacob Jansen, her mother Catherine Jansen, her sister Constance Jansen, and her dear cousin Jefferson Keener. 

Alice is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, James Swigert, and her children, Stacy Mathis and her husband Michael, son Jamey Swigert and his wife Julie and her three much loved grandchildren, Hendley, Jack and Jacob. 

Alice was a devoted teacher for many years in California and Charleston and after retiring from the school system worked for the Charleston County Library system. She also was the co-owner of a child activity center, Building Blocks, with a dear friend of hers. 

Although Alzheimer's erased many of her memories, she always remembered the kindness of others and her love for her many friends, neighbors, and her very well-fed animals. A long-time member of Christ St. Paul's Church, she loved the Lord and those in her small group who loved on her to the very end. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Christ St. Paul's Anglican Church, 4981 Chapel Rd in Hollywood, South Carolina. The burial will be held at Christ St. Paul's Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
