Alice Marie Erickson (Piper)

Alice Marie Erickson, 81, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015. She was born on Monday, November 20, 1933, in Racine, WI, a daughter of the late Frida Trumm Piper and the late Howard Piper. Alice was a long-time member of Grace on the Ashley Church, formerly known as Rutledge Memorial Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher there and a leader in the Women's Missionary Organization. She loved to read and study the Scriptures. Alice was also an avid swimmer and golfer and loved the ocean and out-of-doors. She was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and was once an active member of the Junior League. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Milton 'Milt' Erickson of Charleston, SC; son, Brad Erickson and his husband, Brian Protheroe of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Julie M. Mitchem and her husband, Roger Lee Mitchem of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Marie Bassett of Charleston, SC and James Erickson Bassett of Charleston, SC; and one brother, Ronald Piper and his wife, Karen, of Englewood, FL. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel, with Rev. Frank Cone officiating.
