Alexander Patrick 'Alex' Friel

Alexander Patrick Friel, 49, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. He was born on Tuesday, October 31, 1967 in Chapel Hill, NC, son of Patrick Friel and the late Nancy Childress Friel. Alex was a Paramedic and Firefighter, serving in both Florida and South Carolina. Alex was also a devoted member of the Suicide Prevention for Military, Veterans and Support Group. Alex graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA where he was a proud member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 15 ½ years, Patricia Heiden Friel of Charleston, SC; his father, Patrick (Mona); his sister, Lisa Grace Friel; niece, Maya Friel; mother-in-law; Ilean Slacter; father-in-law, Marshall Heiden (Sandra Collins); sister-in-law, Amy Reynolds (David); nephew, Scott Reynolds; sister-in-law, Joy Parks (Neil) and brother-in-law, Daniel Heiden.
